Frequents Asked Questions
About Our Incense
Q: Why are some of the incense referred to as Satya Sai Baba, some as Nag Champa and some as just Satya?
A: All the incense on this website is manufactured by Shrinivas Sugandhalaya of India under the patronage of Satya Sai Baba. The title Satya (Also spelled Sathya) means truth. The oval Satya logo appears on the front of most packets and so this shorter name is often used. Although Nag Champa is a particular fragrance, it has become part of the branding and a thin blue line stating SATYA SAIBABA NAG CHAMPA is found on most of the packaging. This is to show the branding as being the same as the familiar blue packets and not to suggest the fragrance is similar to the Original Nag Champa. Agarbatti (also prominent on the Original Blue Nag Champa packet) is another name for this type of Indian incense on a stick. Elsewhere, they are often referred to as Joss Sticks.
Q: Why the different price breaks?
A: Basically, we get certain incense (particularly the original Nag Champa) in larger bulk thus a lot cheaper. We prefer to pass these savings on to you. However, where you would normally have to buy outer cartons of 12 or 25 packs to get these sorts of prices, our price break system allows you to get cheaper prices creating bulk by mixing different types of incense.
Q: How do I know that your incense is good quality and recent stock? I have heard that incense will deteriorate with time.
A: We go through most of the Original Nag Champa, so this stock is never more than a few months old. Compare with some suppliers who are still selling 2007 or even older Nag Champa! The date is evident on these on the Original Nag Champa on the ends of the outer pack of 12 boxes. Most important to preserve the quality of these incense sticks is to keep them boxed up in a dark place. In particular do not store them in direct sunlight, damp or particularly hot or cold conditions. Currently, the only stock we have that is over 12 months old is the Geet Govind. However, this is still in excellent condition as it has been stored correctly.
Q: Why don't you offer larger packs of Nag Champa? Wouldn't that be cheaper of better for the environment?
A: There are many larger packs of Nag Champa available, but it does not work out any cheaper than the 15g packs. It is better for us to concentrate one size of each variety and get bulk of that to keep prices low. The manufacturers are very environmentally aware and confirm on each pack that the packaging is environmentally friendly and recyclable.
